Every Sunday at the station, the antique halls open daily, and the farmers markets of the surrounding towns, weekend by weekend
Daylesford has had a market at the railway station every Sunday for decades, and the towns around it take turns through the month. If you are here for a weekend, there is always one on. Fridges in every room mean the cheese survives until the drive home.
Every Week
- Daylesford Sunday Market - Every Sunday, 8am to about 3pm, in the grounds of the old railway station on Raglan Street: plants, bric-a-brac, produce, clothes, tools, breakfast. Stalls wind down after 1pm and pack up early in bad weather. The heritage train leaves from the same platform.
- The Mill Markets - Not a market day but a market hall: antiques, vintage clothing, records and collectables in a big shed at 105 Central Springs Road, open daily 10am to 6pm except Christmas Day. The rainy-day plan.
Once a Month, By Saturday
- First Saturday - Woodend Farmers Market (9am to 1pm, 90-odd stalls) and the Daylesford Makers Market behind the Town Hall.
- Second Saturday - Kyneton Farmers Market, 8.30am to 1pm, near Piper Street.
- Third Saturday - Trentham Farmers Market and Trentham Makers Market in the town square, and Creswick Market at the Neighbourhood Centre, 9am to 1pm.
- Fourth Saturday - Daylesford Farmers Market at the primary school on Vincent Street, 9am to 1pm, run by Rotary.
Once a Month, By Sunday
- First Sunday - Castlemaine Farmers Market at the Western Oval, 9am to 1pm, every month except January.
- Third Sunday - Talbot Farmers Market, the region’s big one: 80-plus stalls in a gold-rush village 40 minutes west, 9am to 1pm.
- Fourth Sunday - Castlemaine Artists Market at the Western Reserve, 10am to 2pm.
Farm Gates
- Istra Smallgoods, Musk - A smallgoods maker with a farm shop for salami, bacon and ham, 10 minutes out.
- Daylesford Cider and Captains Creek - Both sell from the cellar door; see our cellar doors guide. (read)
- Lavandula - Lavender everything, plus produce from the farm kitchen.
Market Manners
- Go early. The best produce is gone by 10am and the Sunday market is quietest at 8.
- Bring cash and bags. Most stalls take cards now; some do not, and reception can be patchy.
- Dates shift for public holidays and weather. Each market posts changes on its own page.
Then breakfast at Cafe Lotte, which is next door to us and open Wednesday to Sunday.
