How to reach Hepburn Springs from Melbourne, the airport and the regional cities, with or without a car
Hepburn Springs is 3km north of Daylesford, about 115km north-west of Melbourne. The Motor Inn is at 105 Main Road, on the main road through the village, with free parking at your door and self check-in at any hour. Here is every way to get to us.
Driving From Melbourne
- Calder Freeway route - CityLink to the Calder Freeway (M79), exit at Woodend, then through Tylden and Trentham to Daylesford and on to Hepburn Springs. About an hour and a half, the prettier road, and the one from the airport.
- Western Freeway route - West Gate Bridge and the Western Ring Road to the Western Freeway (M8), exit at Ballan for the Ballan-Daylesford Road. About the same time, and the faster road on a Friday evening when the Calder backs up.
- The last 3km - Through Daylesford on Vincent Street, then follow the Hepburn Springs signs north along Main Road. We are on the main road through the village, next door to Cafe Lotte.
From Everywhere Else
- Melbourne Airport - About 100km and an hour and a quarter, straight onto the Calder Freeway. There is no scheduled shuttle, so it is a hire car or a pre-booked transfer.
- Ballarat - 35 minutes north on the Midland Highway through Creswick.
- Castlemaine - 30 minutes south on the Midland Highway.
- Bendigo - About an hour via the Calder and the Midland Highway.
Without a Car
There is no passenger train to Daylesford; the line closed in 1978 and the station now runs Sunday tourist trains. The public transport route is a V/Line train from Southern Cross to Woodend on the Bendigo line (about an hour), then the V/Line coach from Woodend to Daylesford (about 45 minutes). Coaches also connect from Ballarat and from Castlemaine. They stop in Daylesford, not Hepburn Springs, so the last leg is the local Daylesford to Hepburn Springs bus, which runs a handful of trips Monday to Saturday and stops on Main Road, or a taxi.
- V/Line - timetables for the Daylesford coaches via Woodend, Castlemaine and Ballarat (website)
- Daylesford Taxi - 03 5348 1111, early starts to late, airport transfers by arrangement.
- Uber - Listed for Daylesford and Hepburn Springs, but with few drivers; reserve ahead rather than expecting one at the kerb.
Fuel and Charging
- No petrol station in Hepburn Springs. The nearest are BP on Vincent Street and Shell on Raglan Street in Daylesford, five minutes away.
- Electric cars: a 50kW DC fast charger (CCS2 and CHAdeMO) in the Bathhouse car park at the Mineral Springs Reserve, a few minutes from us, and a 25kW Chargefox charger at Daylesford Town Hall.
When You Arrive
- Check-in is from 2pm and is self service: your instructions, room number and key location arrive by SMS before you get here, and they work at any hour, so a late arrival is no trouble.
- Parking is free, on site.
- Questions on the way? Call (03) 5348 3234 and you will get a person.
